Accession Numbers and Herbarium Codes

Each herbarium specimen entered into an institution's collection is assigned a unique number, called the
accession number. To differentiate between collections from each institution, accession numbers in
this database include the acronym (abbreviation) of the herbarium. Larger herbaria have official
acronyms, but the smaller collections, designate by an asterisk in the table below, do not have officially
acronyms, so we have assigned each institution a code, shown in the table below.
