Graminoids Choose one of the links above for a list of plant-related websites about that category. Selected websites include only non-commercial, free-access sites that do not require passwords. The links provided have all been checked as of April 18, 2008, but visitors should note that most large websites have a regular downtime for editing and uploading more information. Often, this downtime occurs on the weekends, especially Sunday night (students take note!). If you find a link that doesn't work, try that site again at a different time or on a different day; if it still does not work, please report the problematic link to the NOPD. GymnospermsGymnosperms of Northeastern Wisconsin http://www.uwgb.edu/biodiversity/herbarium/gymnosperms/gymno_intro.htm A great website with an interactive key that includes all of our northern Ontario conifers. Juniperus of the World http://www.juniperus.org/ Comprehensive information on the genus Juniperus, by Robert Adams, Baylor University. This website includes species descriptions, synonymy, and keys to the world's junipers. North American taxonomists take note of the accepted subspecific taxa, which are different from those in Volume 2 (1993) of Flora of North America. Non-Flowering Vascular Plant Family Access Page http://www.botany.hawaii.edu/faculty/carr/nfpfamilies.htm Another part of the Gerald D. Carr's excellent website on vascular plants from the University of Hawaii; includes excellent images of Gymnosperms. The Cycad Pages http://plantnet.rbgsyd.nsw.gov.au/PlantNet/cycad/ An informative site on an ancient group of gymnosperms known to most northern Ontarians only from the few specimens available for sale in the plant sections at A&P and Home Depot. Read about Cycad Identification and the symbiotic relationship between cycad roots and cyanobacteria. The Gymnosperm Database http://www.conifers.org/ The first (and last!) database any botanist should look to for information on gymnosperms. An excellent website, with a recent new face, from Christopher J. Earle. Botany students will find this site invaluable. |
