Spelling Changes
Sometimes minor name spelling changes are made in the way a scientific name is written. These changes are necessary to correct an unintentional typographic error in the original description, or to make sure the scientific name follows the gender and/or spelling rules for Latin words. When an minor change in spelling is made, the original spelling is shown after the corrected spelling of the scientific name. Example: Piperia unalascensis (Spreng.) Rydb. – as ‛unalaschensis.'
